Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, who represents Roslyn in Albany, recently sponsored the fifth annual Legislative Pet Food Drive in the 16th Assembly District, in partnership with Long Island Cares. The drive helped local soup kitchens and food pantries meet the needs of struggling families with pets.
Pet supplies for dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, reptiles and ferrets were collected at Schimel’s district office in Great Neck, as well as Port Washington Community Chest, Great Neck Social Center, and Herricks Community Center. The grand total came to 413 pounds of items including bags of dog and cat food, canned food, treats, kitty litter, and new pet toys. The organizers thank the Port Washington Animal Hospital and the Brownie Troop 425 from John Philip Sousa Elementary School for contributing their time and efforts in collecting for this food drive.
