basketballTwo recent greats from the Roslyn High School basketball program—George Beamon and Mark Gjonlekaj—are having fine seasons on the college level.

As of press time, Beamon, a senior at Manhattan College, has led the Jaspers to a 7-2 record. Considered one of the premier point guards in America, Beamon has scored 20 points or more in seven of the Jaspers first nine games. He scored 22 points in an exciting overtime win over Buffalo.

Gjonlekaj is seeing plenty of playing time as a freshman for the SUNY Old Westbury squad. He is averaging 6.2 points per game, including a season-high 16 points in a Dec. 30 game against Alvernia. Both Beamon and Gjonlekaj are set for big second halves of the 2013-14 season.
