The entire Choral Music program from Roslyn High School returned to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Major Festival at Hofstra University on Tuesday, May 17 after a long absence. NYSSMA holds festivals across New York each spring where students sing before professional judges who provide an objective evaluation of their musical performance according to 26 musical criteria. Students must perform two musical selections from the NYSSMA Manual, a publication of challenging musical repertoire.
Roslyn High School was one of a select few schools at the festival who sent all of their choruses to participate: Roslyn Singers, Roslyn High School Chorus and Chamber Singers. The students performed at an incredibly high level, and represented our school with exemplary professionalism and excellent musicianship. The Roslyn Singers earned a Bronze Award, Roslyn High School Chorus received a Silver Award, and the Chamber Singers also garnered a Silver Award. Congratulations to Vocal Music Teacher Allison Hungate Wood and all of the singers on their fantastic performances.
