On a recent visit, I spoke with hairdresser, Ken Sakurai, who spoke about the art of cutting hair. Depending on the type of hair you have and the look you are going for will determine how a cut will done.

If you are layering hair, four to five scissors can be used. “With fine hair and a simple cut, I use one scissor,” says Sakurai. The style determines which scissor he will use.

Armed with a tool belt custom made for the artist, Sakurai begins his artistry by partitioning sections of hair to make a precision cuts that fall perfectly to the shape of the cut.

When asked about the tools of his trade, Sakurai likes to use scissors made out of Japanese steel. “They make the best blades that stay sharp.”

He uses razor to give a style texture; however, the razor cut does not achieve the same look every single time you blow dry it.

Once the haircut is done, a stylist blows out the cut according to the customer’s desire.

Laura Genova, Sakuria assistant, begin the process of a blow dry with curls by twisting the partition of hair and then rolls it with a brush and gently unwrapping it and twisting to keep the curl. The process makes the hair fuller.

Once the hair is dry and has loose curls in it, Sakuri returns to ensure the cut falls correctly and begins his artistry with the curling iron. With a bit of spray to hold the style, the styling irons used have big barrels to produce a larger, less structured curl. The ends when rolled are never put under the clip so that the ends are full.

To complete the look, the curls are gently fanned out so that the look is totally natural without any heavy product weighing it down.

You can use their make-up artist to complete your look.
