Nassau County Police identified the dead man found in the Herricks woods on Jan. 19 as Kenneth Crane, 60, with no known address. The man was discovered near Old Searingtown and Searingtown roads at 1:40 p.m.

According to an unnamed source in the Herricks School District, students would routinely see a homeless man living in the wooded area on Old Searingtown Road. It is unknown at this time if Crane was the person, the source said.

Police initially described Crane as white, wearing black pants, a tan olive jacket, blue hooded sweatshirt and blue sneakers. The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death. The Third Squad is still gathering information, police said.

Anyone with information regarding Crane’s family should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
