Toy Drive
Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn has chosen Friends of Karen to support this holiday season with an ongoing toy drive. Friends of Karen is a children’s charity that provides emotional, financial and advocacy support to families with a child diagnosed with cancer or another life threatening illness. New, unwrapped gifts may be dropped off at the synagogue entrances. Toys should be appropriate for use while in the hospital, i.e. craft sets, Barbie playsets, action figures, Lego and Duplo sets, Hot Wheels & Matchbox cars, Klutz books for older children, board games, etc. No stuffed animals, please. Gift cards are also welcomed and may be dropped off in the synagogue office.

Temple Tots
From 11 a.m. to noon, Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn will host a Temple Tots. Join the Early Childhood Center Director for a special time for you and your child. This program is for children ages 6-24 months. Learn, play, and enjoy a pre-Shabbat sing-a-long together. Challah and grape juice included.

Tot Shabbat At Temple Judea
Join other parents of young children at Temple Judea for a fun-filled, pre-Chanukah Tot Shabbat on Friday, Dec. 12 from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. In addition to a pizza dinner, families will enjoy crafts, stories, music & movement with Miss Jaime. At 10:30 a.m., Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn will host a Shabbat Family Study, an exciting and engaging parasha study for Religious School families grades 3 – 6.
At 8 p.m., the temple will host a Comedy Night. The state of comedians is arguably of the highest caliber ever to grace the Rubenstein Auditorium. BYOKB (Bring Your Own Kosher Bottle).

Sunday Afternoon Concert
At 3 p.m., the Shelter Rock Library will host a Sunday Afternoon Concert as The Vic Vincent Group presents A Musical History Tour of Rock & Roll, Doo Wop, Pop and Holiday Show. Hear some of your favorite tunes from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. Lead vocalist, Vic Vincent, will perform on keyboard and guitar, Jimmy the K on trumpet, saxophone and vocals and Bill Chimento on drums and backup vocals.

IDF Documentary
Join Temple Sinai of Roslyn at 7:30 p.m. for the documentary Beneath The Helmet: From High School To The Home Front, which explores the lives of young Israelis in the IDF. The viewer will hear the poignant observations of young Israelis, both men and women, from various walks of life. After the film, join Nadav Eylon of the Sid Jacobson JCC as he discusses both his personal experiences as a young Israeli, and his take on current affairs in Israel. All are welcome. Shelter Rock Library Events

Chanukah Dinner, Museum Opening & Friday Night Live

Bibles and Bagels
Come to Bibles and Bagels at 10 a.m. at Temple Sinai of Roslyn. For generations, Jews throughout the world have gathered on Shabbat morning to study the words of the weekly Torah portion. Join Rabbi Gordon at as congregants delve into the mysterious and complex stories of the ancient Bible. Congregants will look to find meaning by studying both medieval and modern commentary. A scrumptious bagel breakfast with all of the trimmings will be served along with delicious coffee. Nosh on a bagel, glean some wisdom from our tradition and share your thoughts. Everyone’s favorite jolly red-suited holiday icon Santa Claus will be visiting A Taste of Home Bakery for breakfast 10 times this December. In addition to a delicious hot breakfast with family and friends, you’ll be able to take as many pictures with Mr. Claus in a quiet, relaxed setting as you like. Santa will be at A Taste of Home Bakery on Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14 and 20 at 9 and 11a.m.
Gingerbread House Decorating
Looking for a beautiful handmade centerpiece for your holiday table? Want something unique and delicious? A Taste of Home Bakery will offer 10 Gingerbread House/Chocolate House Decorating Workshops this holiday season. Class includes a pre-made gingerbread or chocolate house plus all of the decorative items you need to make your own creative seasonal centerpiece. Classes will be offered on Dec. 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., on Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Classes are perfect for both adults and children, and houses can be decorated by parent-child teams if desired.

Soul Doctor Performance
At 2 p.m., Temple Judea of Manhasset invites the community to a special performance of Soul Doctor at the Actors Temple Theatre located at 339 W. 47 Street, NYC. Soul Doctor tells the story of the father of popular Jewish music, Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone. Following the performance, the actors will answers questions from the audience. Tickets are $70 per person and need to be purchased by Dec. 23 through Temple Judea of Manhasset.
