On Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 6 to 8:30 p.m., Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board and the Department of Parks and Recreation are proud to be hosting Bat Night, an educational workshop on bats, on Tuesday, August 30 beginning at 6 p.m. inside the Clark House at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson. The workshop will include an informational lecture on the ecological importance of bats and a “bat safari” with biologist Eric Powers of Your Connection to Nature. Yianni Biniaris of Boy Scout Plandome Troop 71 will discuss his Eagle Scout project, which aims to build and place 30 bat boxes throughout the Town’s parks.
The event will feature:
• An informational session beginning at 6 p.m. which will focus on the ecological importance of bats as a form of pesticide-free insect control and their critical role as pollinators. Led by Sarah Testoni and Deputy Parks Supervisor John Darcy.
• At 6:30 p.m. learn about the biology of bats and their role in controlling mosquito populations from biologist Ranger Eric Powers. Yianni Biniaris, Boy Scouts Plandome Troop 71 will discuss his Eagle Scout project, which aims to build and place 30 bat boxes throughout the Town’s parks. Yianni will also be demonstrating on how to build your own bat house.
• As the sun descends, at 7:30 p.m. head out on an hour long bat observation safari with Ranger Powers. Observe live bats that live in Clark Botanic Garden.
