Roslyn Trinity Cooperative Day School students need not travel to Manhattan for a cultural dance experience. Teaching artists from the Alvin Ailey School come to the Co-op every winter. This creative dance and movement program engages the children in a variety of activities and introduces them to the choreography of Alvin Ailey.
This year’s teacher was Tiffany Barnes, co-coordinator of the junior division of the Ailey School in Manhattan. Barnes recently taught a three-week program to 3 and 4 year-old classes. The children loved swirling, twirling, zig-zagging, galloping, marching and other creative ways of moving to a variety of music. Barnes incorporated components of Alvin Ailey’s choreography including segments of his signature dance, “Revelations.”
